Sofia Sutherland (she/her) has been a member of the Reimagining Justice Lab as a Research Assistant in the Digitization Team since the Spring of 2025, while studying Psychology and Sociology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. With research interests in psychology, sociology, public policy, social justice, and disability studies, Sofia’s primary goal is to continue growing and learning, while better understanding the societal influences that shape individuals’ lives.

In addition, Sofia’s involvement in the Reimagining Justice Lab reflects her passion for social change and equity as she is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy to further deepen her knowledge of systematic issues and hopeful solutions. Drawing inspiration from her brother, who has Cerebral Palsy, Sofia is particularly focused on improving access and advocacy for marginalized and minority communities. This personal connection has inspired Sofia’s dedication to her work and her wish to amplify the voices that are often overlooked in public policy implemented in our society.

Sofia is motivated by her wish to help others, using research to create practical, compassionate, and effective solutions for those in need. Sofia hopes to convey this in her work done throughout her career.
