
Harriet Wiley (she/they) was a member of the Reimagining Justice Lab as a part of the Hidden Sentencing Qualitative Research Team from the Summer of 2022 to 2023 while studying Sociology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. They have additionally completed certificates in Social Work & Social Welfare; and Criminology & the Criminal Justice System. Her academic interests lie mostly in issues of crime, deviance, and punishment with an emphasis on intersectionality and disproportionate impacts. Harriet is also passionate about issues surrounding substance use, and problems relating to LGBTQIA+ and disabled communities. After graduation, they plan to pursue a Master’s in Social Work and become a re-entry social worker for incarcerated populations.
Besides performing research for the Lab, while at UMass, Harriet has served as a student staff member for the Stonewall center, president of the Bi-Pan-Queer Collective, president of the Disability Culture Club, primary organizer for Queer Faith Space, an intern for the treatment department of Hampshire County Jail & Correctional Facility, a student supervisor at Franklin Dining Commons, and a bass clarinetist for the UMass Concert Band. In their free time, she enjoys cooking, playing video games, and spending time with loved ones.
